(1) A permit authority has the following functions in respect of building work, plumbing work or demolition work:(a) to accept applications submitted to it under this Act and, if the application is incomplete, to seek further information before considering the application;(b) to consider any application submitted to it under this Act within the relevant specified period for the application;(c) to accept any other documents submitted to it under this Act and seek further information in respect of the document if required;(d) to ensure that any permit issued by the permit authority is in accordance with this Act;(e) to comply with this Act when issuing, or refusing to issue, a permit under this Act;(f) to ensure that work performed under a permit is to be performed by appropriately qualified persons;(g) if appropriate, to issue a certificate as required under this Act.(2) A permit authority has the following general functions:(a) to make the public aware of the building and plumbing requirements in the State and the application of this Act;(b) to ensure compliance with this Act as required under this Act;(c) to keep any registers required to be kept by a permit authority under this Act.
