[Act 1997 No 12] New South Wales Gaming and Betting Amendment Bill 1997 Explanatory note This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament. Overview of Bill The object of this Bill is to amend the Gaming and Betting Act 1912, so as: (a) to remove restrictions on the holding of race meetings on Sundays, and (b) to remove restrictions on betting or wagering on licensed racecourses on any days after sunset.
Gaming and Betting Amendment Bill 1997 [Act 1997 No 12] Explanatory note Outline of provisions Clause 1 sets out the name (also called the short title) of the proposed Act. Clause 2 provides for the proposed Act to commence on a day or days to be appointed by proclamation. Clause 3 is a formal provision giving effect to the Schedule of amendments. Schedule 1 Amendments Sunday race meetings Schedule 1 [4] amends section 57A (1) (a) to include Sundays among the days on which meetings can be held on metropolitan racecourses for horse racing. Schedule 1 [5] amends section 57A (2) to omit Sundays from the days on which such meetings cannot be held. Schedule 1 [6] amends section 57A (3) to omit Sundays from the days on which other race meetings cannot be held. Schedule 1 [7] omits section 57B, which enables race meetings to be held on Sundays in limited circumstances. Schedule 1 [8] is a consequential amendment omitting a reference to section 57B, which is to be repealed by the proposed Act. Betting after sunset Schedule 1 [1] and [2] amend section 7 (1) to omit the prohibition on betting or wagering on licensed racecourses on any day after sunset. Schedule 1 [3] omits section 7 (2), which enables betting or wagering to be conducted on licensed racecourses after sunset in limited circumstances.
