Passports Amendment Regulations 1999 (No. 1)
Section 12 of the Passports Act 1938 (the Act) provides that the Governor-General may make regulations for the purposes of the Act.
Regulation 13 of the Passports Regulations provides that fees are payable in respect of passports and travel documents as specified in Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations.
The purpose of these amendments is to increase fees for an ordinary adult passport in accordance with the Consumer Price Index for the preceding twelve months (ending 31 March) and to set the fees for all other travel documents at a fixed percentage of the ordinary ad adult passport. These amendments are proposed to take effect on gazettal of the Passports Amendment Regulations 1999.
The amendments also specify, under Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations, the revised fees to be charged for the issue and renewal of and the placement of observations on travel documents.
The fee charged for the issue of an ordinary passport for an adult, for example, has been increased from $126.00 to $128.00.
