Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and

INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL (No. 2) 2011 Government amendment OUTLINE This amendment is to withdraw from the Bill the measure allowing the Minister to delegate the power to appoint a person to act as the Executive Director of Township Leasing or the Coordinator-General for Remote Indigenous Services (Schedule 2). As introduced, this measure would have amended both the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 and the Coordinator-General for Remote Indigenous Services Act 2009 to allow the Minister to delegate to the Secretary or a Deputy Secretary of the Department the power to make these acting appointments. During Parliamentary consideration of this Schedule, members of Parliament raised issues that require further discussion on operational details. The Government will therefore withdraw Schedule 2, to enable other elements of the Bill to proceed. Financial impact statement There is no financial impact from this amendment.

INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL (No. 2) 2011 Government amendment NOTES ON AMENDMENTS Amendment 1 omits Schedule 2, which contains the acting appointments measure.
