HEALTH INSURANCE AMENDMENT (COMPLIANCE) BILL 2009

OUTLINE

The proposed Government amendment to the Health Insurance Amendment
(Compliance) Bill 2009 (the Bill) amends the Bill's commencement date. The
Bill currently provides for a commencement date of 1 January 2010. Passage
of the Bill in its current form would therefore provide for a retrospective
commencement. The amendment will provide for the Bill to commence on the
day after it receives Royal Assent, rather than on 1 January 2010.

Financial impact statement

The financial impact of this Bill is unchanged by this amendment.

NOTES ON AMENDMENTS

Amendment 1

The Bill currently provides for a commencement date of 1 January 2010.
Passage of the Bill in its current form would therefore provide for
retrospective commencement. This amendment amends clause 2 of the Bill by
replacing the words "1 January 2010" with the words "the day after this Act
receives the Royal Assent".
