2019-2020-2021 THE PARLIAMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ELECTORAL LEGISLATION AMENDMENT (CONTINGENCY MEASURES) BILL 2021 SUPPLEMENTARY EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM Amendments to be moved on behalf of the Government (Circulated by authority of the Special Minister of State, the Hon Ben Morton MP)Index] [Search] [Download] [Bill] [Help]OUTLINE The Electoral Legislation Amendment (Contingency Measures) Bill 2021 (the Bill) makes amendments to the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 to enable the Electoral Commissioner to modify the operation of certain aspects of the conduct of elections when a Commonwealth emergency law is in force. The Parliamentary Amendments will omit from the Bill Items 10 to 12 of Schedule 1, which proposed minor administrative amendments with respect to amending the cut-off date for postal vote applications. As a result of the amendment, no changes will be made to the current deadline for postal vote applications, which is 6pm on the Wednesday that is three days before polling day. 1
