Victims of Crime Amendment Bill 2023

A Bill for

An Act to amend the Victims of Crime Act 1994









The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

1 Name of Act

This Act is the Victims of Crime Amendment Act 2023

.

2 Commencement

This Act commences on the day after its notification day.

Note The naming and commencement provisions automatically commence on the notification day (see Legislation Act

, s 75 (1)).

3 Legislation amended

This Act amends the Victims of Crime Act 1994

.

4 Police to update victims about status of investigations

Section 16A (3)

after

5 Section 16A (4), definition of change in status of an investigation

substitute

change in status of an investigation, for an offence, includes when police decide to—

(a) charge a person with the offence; or

(b) issue a warrant for the arrest of a person accused of committing the offence.
