Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2024
A Bill for
An Act to amend the Crimes (Sentencing) Act 2005
The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as
follows:
1 Name of Act
This Act is the Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Act 2024
.
2 Commencement
This Act commences on the day after its notification day.

3 Legislation amended

4 New section 34AA
after section 34, insert
34AA Sentencing—submissions
In deciding how an offender should be sentenced (if at all) for an offence, a court may consider a submission made by a party to the proceeding stating the sentence, or range of sentences, the party considers appropriate for the court to impose.
