AUSTEL's 41 recommendations on the ''Casualties of Telecom' complaints (COT v Telecom (1994) 1 PLPR 52) required Telecom to provide AUSTEL with quarterly progress reports on implementation. AUSTEL's report on its monitoring of Telecom's progress relates principally to matters unrelated to privacy. However, AUSTEL considers that Telecom has taken significant action to improve its voice monitoring practices with the development of a Privacy Protection Policy and Voice Monitoring Guidelines (see (1994) 1 PLPR 55), and notes the pending appointment of an auditor to monitor compliance with them.
